When your closets and cupboards and garage are all overflowing with articles that you just cannot throw away you feel like crying. But you must have heard of self storing where you can store your articles for as long as you like as long as you pay the fee for such storing. These are companies who have storing units built at large facilities where you can take your articles, hire an unit for long term storage and put your articles in till you need them. A few years ago this was not very well known but these days it is becoming very popular and you can always approach a company to help you out rather than cry for want of space.
When you are not leaving your home but still needing space for storing you must be needing it for long term storage because you are going to store such items that you do not need frequently. So you need to hire the units for storing for a long period of time, say for at least a year or half. You can always negotiate with a company when you are hiring a unit for so long. Most of the companies waive the security deposit if you pay a lump sum, for say, three months. If you pay for the whole year in a lump you can also get attractive discounts on the regular hiring price besides the waiver of the security deposit.
Once you have decided on the price now you can choose your objects for long term storage . The commonest articles are those that rot in the garage until a day comes when you simply throw away the article with a heavy heart because it might have been a sentimental attachment to it. It is just an example of the articles that fail to find use but cannot be thrown away and you will find so many in your house that you wished were not there. Then there are the seasonal articles like a boat for picnics in summer and skis for winter sports. They come out once in while but take up huge space. You can simply take them and store them in the storing units. Yes, including your little row boat.
Long term storage places are friends of the householders but the householder needs to be careful while packing for long term. You must first find the terms of access in your facility and plan your packing in that way. The basic rule of packing is the things needed often must be easily accessible and the things needed least should hold the back benches. Always pack the heavier objects at the bottom and the lighter ones at the upper end.
The other thing that should be kept in mind for long term storage or for that matter any warehousing is that you are paying for space. So, do not waste it. Pack in such a way that each and every cubic inch is utilized. Also do some cataloging so that you know which boxes hold what. This comes handy because you do not have to go through every box to find out what you want. This saves time and energy and also you readily know where a particular article is stored. A matter that must be told here is that if you are thinking of storing something of physical or sentimental value and it has a chance of getting damaged in the heat, humidity or dust, pay a bit more and opt for the climate controlled units.
