Industries, businesses and companies are always looking for the next big thing. For some, the next big thing is just around the corner, waiting to be discovered. You might not know what the next big thing is, but you wish that it would fall into your lap. It is that next hot idea, the life changing product or service that everyone will want.
Commercial storage was a natural fit for the rental unit industry. The thinking behind the idea was, well if individuals need to rent, then businesses will need to rent also. And so, commercial storage was born. It took a lot a finagling to get some rental sites to consider this option. By offering this service, some sites would have to rethink their whole layout of their facility. This service would need different access hours, different security and most of all a different layout of the units.
Sites that have this service need to take into consideration the hours that businesses usually keep. If a business was using this service they might need to access their unit at different hours of the day or night for restocking purposes. Some sites will offer an across the board access hours for everyone and then allow those with special needs to have additional hours for a nominal fee. The businesses will gladly pay the extra money to be able to access their unit whenever they need to.
Security at these sites will have to be at least equal to regular rental sites. Most commercial storage units contain merchandise, equipment, inventory or other items of large value. Some business insurance will cover some outside rental areas but most businesses will need to take out additional insurance or protection plans to cover their items. Some popular security items at these sites include but are not limited to, motion sensor cameras, tall sturdy fencing, bright flood lights, guard dogs, police patrols, on site management, and more.
The layout of the commercial storage facility will be quite different than regular unit rentals. Because large trucks will frequently be accessing the property, there must be an allowance for them to pull in and be able to turn around safely. This means the driving aisles will need to be wide and generous for all sizes of vehicles that might need access to the property. The units themselves will typically be larger than regular unit rentals, hence the name. But it does not stop at bigger units, these units will need to have larger doors to accommodate the items being stored. The rooflines will be higher and the width of the buildings will also be larger.
Some commercial storage facilities will actually act as mini businesses. Space is rented out and people conduct their small businesses in the units. Along the row of units you could have a mechanic, a handy man shop, furniture restoration, a welder, and more industrial types of businesses. This allows some smaller businesses to rent a space at a reasonable price. If you are looking for this type of business situation, you should check with your local rental facilities to see if they can accommodate your small business. Likewise, check with your local business codes to see what permits you might need to have to operate you small business in a unit rental.
