Packing and storing items is an art in itself and one needs to know about the correct method that to follow in storage practices. There are certain factors that need to be considered before going about the task of storing items. Some of these are

For storing delicate items it is always better to house them in furniture drawers as otherwise they might just break. Before shoving them in to the drawer, they should be carefully packed in old cloth, cotton or newspaper so that they are given that extra protection that they need. In the drawer they should be arranged in an organized manner and not placed in any odd way because in that case they might get damaged.

When packing a storage box for transportation, it is very important to pack delicate items, glass items and other fragile articles with old cloth or newspapers for extra protection. The empty spaces in the box in which the items are placed should be filled with newspapers or old cloth because these items might bang against each other during transportation and break.

Usually packing of combustible material in closed and sealed boxes is not allowed. Paints, chemicals, petroleum, items containing alcohol and cooking gas cylinders are never transported in sealed containers as it might be highly hazardous.  Gas cylinders run a risk of bursting and catching fire if they are transported under high temperature conditions.

Storage of perishable food in sealed containers is not a very wise thing to do because it will get spoilt in no time. It is dangerous to consume such food because it might lead to food poisoning or some deadly infections. However, if perishable food needs to be transported, the packaging should be done with adequate care taken to preserve its quality.

Special care should be taken while packaging of items such as garden and lawn equipment. While usage, these equipments gather a lot of dirt and moisture that one needs to remove before packing these items for storage in sealed containers. Packaging with moisture or water will lead to rusting of the metallic equipment. The stagnant water will also breed some germs. Shovels, rakes and hoes are best stored in containers used for putting trash.

After packing the boxes, one should take adequate care to ensure their security. They should be sealed properly with the name and contact details of the owner written on all sides of the boxes. They should be locked properly so that they are not tampered with. It is better for the owner to make investment in locks of superior quality.

When storing clothes or any leather accessories it is always better to store them in storage boxes specifically constructed for this purpose. There are boxes available in the market for storing wardrobe items that can be used. Otherwise care should be taken against outside moisture and dirt, as once they enter these agents cause a lot of damage. These items should be wiped and kept before warehousing because any residual moisture might just cause a growth of fungus.

When packing furniture it is always better to dismantle them before packing them as this will allow furniture, that is usually large sized, to fit in small containers. It better to store furniture on boards and pallets.
