When friends and family joke about the holiday clutter still clinging on to your living space, you should know it’s time to put it away in storage. Bad weather, holiday travel, and work make it hard for people to return to the norm and getting back on track can be difficult when you’ve fallen into pure laziness and exhaustion. However, we are already almost a month into the New Year, so it is now or never that you are going to put away those holiday decorations in storage. If you wait any longer, you might as well leave them up for the next holiday season. But it will be very embarrassing on the Forth of July when the neighbors find out that the Christmas tree is still up. So it’s time to get motivated.

Though, don’t do put away your holiday decorations in storage to save yourself from embarrassment. The motivation should come from an inner pride. Call it vanity if you want, but studies show a clean home environment makes us feel better, helps sleeping habits, and improves our moods. The payback encourages people to get off become motivated and take care of other lingering home projects. Get your jokey friends and family to help you.

If you can’t put everything away in storage all at one time, don’t be discouraged. It’s better that you can’t. When the mind thinks of big projects it develops anxiety about time constraints. We wonder how we’re going to get all the decorations in storage in a short time. Then we become overwhelmed with the thought and procrastinate. But what we neglect to think about is nibbling at the project. Instead of tackling the task all at one time, start slow. Going all out may be hard to do. But taking little nibbles, like take down the lights one day, the ordainments the next, will simplify the project for you and everything will be in storage by Valentines Day.

But everyone is different. You may be one of those people who can tackle a project by the horns. Then what is keeping you from putting your holiday decorations in storage? Is it because every space and crack in your home is filled with other clutter? Then it may be time to rent a storage unit at a self storage facility. Self storage is a cheap storage solution for holiday decorations and household clutter. What is nice about a storage unit is that storage there doesn’t have to be nice and organized. The main focus is to get your home nice and tidy. You can load a moving truck and just dump everything into a storage unit. If you want, go back at a later time to organize your storage.

Another option to find more storage space in your home is to build lofts. Build a platform, stage, or bilevel loft in an attic, bedroom or garage. Lofts can create storage space for storage containers, craft storage, and storage for sports equipment. Once you clean up holiday decorations in an organized storage container under a loft, who will be laughing now that you are more organized.
