Self storage renters are people who hire paid storehouses for keeping their belongings. They have to abide by certain rules and regulations set by the firm that offers them the storing area. The firms in turn need to follow some norms that have been devised by the legal bodies of the region. Ideally following the tenancy agreement completely will save the tenant a lot of hassles. But this is hardly done. There are a lot of practical deviations due to which problems might develop between the tenant and the firm. There are certain tips that the tenant can bear in mind to make his experience a smooth one.

The tenant should first read the agreement completely and understand its implications well. The self storage renters should ask the storehouse supervisors about any issues that he might want to understand and clarify. It is better to hire the storehouses only after being fully convinced with the terms and conditions, rather than signing the agreement hastily and then encountering problems later on.

The tenant should always pay the monthly hiring charges right on the due date or a few days before, or after it in case of any genuine problem. It is not a good practice to procrastinate payments for long durations of time. This will spoil the impression of the tenant in the eyes of the storehouse operator who will be compelled to take legal action against the self storage renters if they do not pay up even after being warned for a number of times. If the tenant abandons his items placed in the storehouse, the storehouse authorities will place the items in an auction or lien sale.

The tenant can always use the auto pay options of computerized programs. He will not have to bother with remembering the dates of payment. He will simply have to feed in the due dates for every month and the computerized program will take care of the payments every month automatically. By using this program one can avoid penalties. Many of the storehouses have auto pay programs for collecting the charges from the self storage renters on time. These amenities are offered free of charge.

The tenant should always try to protect his belongings under insurance cover. He should have a home insurance scheme for protecting his articles. If he does not have one he should take one. It is to be borne in mind that the storehouse authorities do not automatically insure items that are placed in their storerooms. One needs to specifically ask for insurance for the items kept in the storehouses.

The tenants should always provide authentic information to their clients. They have to give credible contact information. If there are any changes the self storage renter should notify them immediately. Not providing contact information can be disadvantageous to the tenant itself because in the case of any emergency the storehouse operator will not be able to contact him.

It is always a good practice to give adequate notice to the storehouse authorities before taking out items stored in the storehouses. Vacating without any prior notice might put the tenant as well as the operator in an inconvenient situation. It is a good practice to clean and lock the storehouse properly before shifting things from it to another place.
