StorageMart Preserves Memories For Central Missouri Foster Children

Columbia, MO, USA – August 26, 2010 – StorageMart on St. Mary’s Blvd. in Jefferson City, MO has donated a 100 sq. ft. climate controlled storage space to the Central Missouri Foster Care and Adoption Association (CMFCAA). The non-profit organization serves Central Missouri and meets the needs of adoptive and foster children beyond what State and government programs provide.

DeAnna Alonso, CMFCAA Executive Director, said of the organization’s new storage space, “The StorageMart location is going to give us the opportunity to store belongings of youth who are entering residential treatment due to trauma, abuse and neglect. The storage unit will hold the only belongings these children own, so we want to keep these items safe and dry for their return. Our kiddos don’t have much, but what they do have is extremely valuable to them and holds their memories, hopes and dreams. We want to thank StorageMart for giving our foster children a chance to heal while providing a much needed service to our community.”

CMFCAA is currently meeting the needs of 178 foster families, countless adoptive families and over 600 foster and adoptive children. The organization offers several programs including Begin Again Backpack, Christmas Adopt-a-Family, Transitions and more. These programs range in offering foster children haircuts to encouraging and assisting high school students to graduate and pursue higher education.

The Central Missouri Foster Care and Adoption Association will host “The Forget-Me-Not Gala” on November 18, 2010 at the Capital Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City, Missouri. This event will raise funds to support and maintain the daily operations of CMFCAA.

Residents and businesses in Central Missouri may contribute to meeting the needs of abused and neglected children by donating any of the following items: 

Needs List:

• Fall and Winter clothing items
• Baby Care Items: Diapers, Wipes, Formula, Baby Food
•  Hygiene supplies
• Backpacks
• Gift cards for the Begin Again Backpack program
• Halloween costumes
• 2 computers for youth to fill out college apps, SAT registrations, scholarships, employment apps, etc.

Established in 2007, The Central Missouri Foster Care and Adoption Association (CMFCAA) serves as the sole community organization providing for the needs of foster and adoptive children in Central Missouri.
