StorageMart announces the BUILD IT GREEN Design Challenge
Global Green USA (www.globalgreen.org) reports that the construction and maintenance for buildings accounts for 40% of energy use and 30% of raw materials use, and that buildings are a major contributor to global warming.
You can help make self storage the most eco-friendly construction type on planet earth!
Self Storage is already a low impact construction class. We want it to be the greenest construction type anywhere.
If you want to make the planet more eco-friendly and make sustainable living more prevalent in our society, send in a submission of your ideas on how to make the self storage industry a leader in sustainable, green construction and design to the StorageMart BUILD IT GREEN Design Challenge
Entries will be accepted in the following categories:
Sustainable Construction Materials: Renewable materials, clean supplies and super-low emissions processes and green material innovations.
Energy Positive: Ideas and proposals to create more energy than we use by such means as solar, wind, geothermal, rain driven hydro electric, or techniques yet to be developed.
Carbon Negative: Utilizing green roofs, green walls and parking areas, carbon absorbing ponds and designs you may have on the drawing board to decrease greenhouse gas emissions.
Wildlife/Natural Habitat-Friendly: Ideas to build self storage properties that help the industry promote and sustain the natural habitat of the environments of which they are a part.
New Conveniences and Amenities: How can we improve the customer experience and add design elements that help both the customer and the environment.
Smart Functions: Create and add new technologies and or tools to make using and managing self storage properties easier and more efficient.
Bottom Line Results: Cost analyses and return on investment guidelines to help the self storage industry create profit by shifting to green building and design.
Re-Used and Recycled Materials: Use old materials to do new things for self storage owners and customers.
Gray Water Solutions: Re-use waste water to everyone’s benefit.
Submission procedures:
- Post your ideas and designs on-line using your website or a website of your choice.
- Email us with your intention to submit the design.
- Provide a well written 200-400 word proposal summary of your idea.
- Provide the web address where your proposal can be viewed in its entirety. If your submission is accepted we will notify you of its acceptance and it will then be submitted it to our panel of judges.
- You must then note on your website that your design has been submitted to StorageMart for its StorageMart Build It Green Design Challenge. Provide a link on your site to our site promoting the contest. You may promote your inclusion into the StorageMart Build It Green Design Challenge through your own avenues as well, subject to approval by StorageMart management. We will provide a logo for you to use on your site promoting your idea and your entrance in the contest.
- We will promote the selected submissions through our website networks, blog sites, industry press releases and national media outlets.
Design entries will be promoted at the StorageMart trade show booth at the Inside Self Storage Expo in February 2008 and at the annual convention of the Self Storage Association in September 2008.
In October of 2008, we will announce up to three winners for each of the above categories and promote the winners through our website and blog networks, through industry press releases and national media outlets.
