If there is anything difficult to get in the present times, it is adequate storage space in your house. The present day urban accommodations are very small and they are just enough for one to fit in only the most essential of articles. This is the main reason for many people are resorting to paid storehouses to solve their problems regarding the availability of free storing area. But paid storehouses can turn out to be pretty expensive and some people might not be able to afford them. Therefore, one should learn to use the available area in the most beneficial manner to make room for storing the extra household articles.
By carefully planning out the arrangement of items in the living area, one can always find some storage space for storing additional items. The first thing that needs to be focused upon is the presence of a large amount of trash in the house. Many people do not bother about disposing of piles of newspapers, old bills, used and damaged containers etc. These add up to the clutter of the house. First the house needs to be freed of all this clutter. Selling a lot of trivial items that are not actually in use in a rummage sale can free up a lot of place in the house.
There might be cupboards that contain unused old articles that have gathered dust over the years. Silver fish feast on unused books kept in cupboards. Cupboards should be filled with only essential items. It is always good to keep similar articles together and in one particular place because then one will know where to expect what. A little bit of visualization and planning will let one know the essential and a non-essential items in a room. A lot of storage space can be created by careful planning. Non essential items can also be placed in garages or in the basement, if one does not want to dispose them of or sell them. But they should be maintained well in the garages if they are worth it. Otherwise they will be damaged in the garage out of neglect.
After finalizing upon the items that should be there in a room, try to deliberately look for free areas for accommodating the articles. One might not be able to think of any potential place as a storing area without putting an effort towards it. By carefully scrutinizing a room one can definitely find some free place. One of the common mistakes that people make while selecting a storage space is to look for only the usual areas. Tables or closets might not be the only answer to the storing issues. There is a lot of place available under or next to furniture, beds and closets. If there is any open area that can be used as a potential place for storing articles.
There can be a lot of place under the sofas. Another very important area that is always left free is the vertical area near the ceiling. Shelves can be built in this area for keeping books. Many times people build hanging libraries out there which go very well with the contemporary style of the house. Storage space can be created above doors and windows. Shelves can be installed twelve or eighteen inches below the ceiling. These can be easily accessed with mini ladders.
