Storage area in the living quarters seems to be a very difficult thing to manage in the present day urban accommodations as they are generally small in size and designed to accommodate the most essential items. This is the reason many people have resorted to using paid storehouses for storing their extra articles. The modern day furniture is designed for small accommodations and when not required it can be easily folded and stored in a small area.  There are certain ways in which people can increase storing area in their houses.

• Foldable furniture is the type of furniture that is much required in the urban accommodations of today. Instead of investing in a sofa and a bed separately one can purchase a sofa that can be folded out into a bed to save up on the storage area.
• Bathrooms should never be overlooked. They generally have adequate area for storing a lot of toilet essentials and accessories. Bathrobes, soaps, shampoos and other relevant items should be kept in the bathrooms itself.
• Bookshelves can be organized efficiently to accommodate more items than they generally do. Clothes, accessories and extra furniture should be kept in bookshelves apart from books.

• Furniture that can accommodate items should be bought. Dressing tables with drawers can be used to save up on a lot of place for storing items. The area behind the mirror of the dresser can be cleverly used for accommodating cosmetics and any other makeup items. These items will remain protected from exposure to direct sunlight which may be damaging for them. Tables with cabinets can be used for accommodating newspapers and magazines.
• The under sink area is the one that is most neglected in any house. It can be usefully utilized as an area for storing items, like tooth cleaning accessories. This area is often used for keeping the water filters.
• Vertical slide in shelves are designed for increasing the storage area. They can be used for hanging pots and pans. This will save up on a lot of place in the bottom kitchen shelves and work area.
• A lot of area for storing items can be made by demarcating certain areas. By demarcation a limit is put on the maximum area that is used for the household items. This ensures that some area is made available for storing items.
• Organizing things in a room is one of the important factors for creating storing area that needs to be discussed separately. There might be many items in a house but free place can be created by arranging these items in a proper way. The storage area can be created by placing the items in an economical manner. Corners and unused area should be focused upon. A lot of area in a room is wasted because of arranging items in such a way that gaps are formed. The items should be arranged in such a way that there are no gaps at all. Number of items should be accommodated in the least amount of area available.
