Have you maxed out your garage storage space? It probably looked like a lot of storage space at one time. In fact, the car used to spend some time in there. But like magic, all this storage just appeared without explanation. Well, until you master magic the overflowing garage storage is not going to disappear. You will have to find another storage solution in the meantime. Your goal is to get that car back in there. Yes, the project looks a bit overwhelming. It is going to be hard work and a lot of tough decisions will have to be made like what stays and what goes. But you will have to come to grips that some decisions are permanent. This means getting rid of things that you do not want to, but have to. Otherwise, you will have to rent storage space on the moon. Lets see how quickly you can fill that up. Picture your garage storage as a big closet if that helps you overcome the initial shock from looking at it. Okay, no more talking. Lets get started.
First things first, make some appointments. The first appointment you should schedule is the garage storage clean up day. Pick this Saturday if you can. Maybe it will get you out of going to your Aunts third wedding. The second appointment is to reserve a self storage unit and a rental truck. You will need a self storage unit to put away things that you want to keep, just not in your garage storage space. Your third appointment should be with a local charity to pick up your wonderful donations. Make the appointment for the following day so you have a nice pile of charity waiting for them. Finally, your last appointment is with help. Recruit some friends or relatives who do not want to go to your Aunts wedding either.
On garage storage recovery day make sure you are prepared with plenty of garbage cans and garbage bags. If you need to, rent a dumpster for broken furniture and other useless items. You can probably throw out that old eight-track tape player and the box of outdated computer software. If the charities do not want it, it is garbage. Use that as a rule of thumb. Another rule of thumb is if you have not used something in over ten years it should go into self storage or the garbage. For instance, when was the last time you went camping? Do you really need to hold on to that sleeping bag and camping stove? It is just clogging up garage storage space. Seriously ask yourself what are the chances you will go camping again. Maybe you should give it to one of your helpers as payment. These are the type of questions you will have to ask yourself on a lot of garage storage items. You emotions say keep it, but it is your emotions that put you into this mess with garage storage in the first place. If you still cannot come up with a decision on the fate of some storage items then put them into your self storage unit. But be careful not to over pack that too. If some of your garage storage items are temperature sensitive like a piano, you can put your piano storage in your storage unit too.
