There are groups of collectors for just about any knick-knack or chotchke you could think of. From spoon collections to car collectors, finding that one piece you have been looking for or dreaming of is like finding a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Except that once you have found it, the excitement wears off and you start looking for another piece. Thus, a collection begins, as two spoons become three and then four and suddenly twenty.

The great thing about collecting spoons and such is that you can display them in shadow boxes and china cabinets. Car collectors, however, do not have the luxury of displaying their collection in their dining room. Some car collectors choose to build elaborate garages as a sort of car storage museum.

Such car storage can become an obsession for some. After all, a car collection is an expensive hobby and so housing classic cars and sports cars and more demands a large investment from the collector.

Some high end car storage features start by including a separate structure that can accommodate a two to seven cars. The limit of car storage space really only ends with the collectors budget for cost and square footage.

Aside from the size of the garage, a car collector should take security into consideration. High tech security features may be required from the insurance company and could possibly lower monthly insurance payments on the structure and for the cars themselves.

Some of the security features that would prevent theft and vandalism are video surveillance, motion sensor lighting or alarms and biometric garage door openers, which require fingerprint authorization to enter. In addition to those are features like alarmed doors and windows, a fenced perimeter and even intimidating security measures such as guard dogs. Would be thieves may think twice about jumping the fence onto your property when they see an angry guard dog on the other side.

The great advantage of having a car garage space on your own property is that your car collection is always just a moment away. But leaving your home for vacation or business should not send you into a worry about departing from your cars. You can relax or focus on business and rest assured that you can check on your investment. Many high end security systems allow the operator to receive wireless access to security data. Some systems may even provide remote access to video surveillance feed, which would allow the car collector peace of mind.

Beyond theft protection, car collectors must also consider accidental damage protection as well as fire prevention. Ensuring the customized garage posts no hazards is an important step in accident prevention. With high tech security features comes high tech problems, so it is important to have a back up plan in case one of those measures fails. A sound garage structure is not only a back up plan, but a primary contender on the list of most important factors in safe car storage.

Sprinkler systems and fire resistant building materials are an easy way to save safeguard against fire damage. Also, architecture designed to withstand the elements of your region should be taken into consideration.

Once a car collector has taken all of these security measures, the only thing he or she will have to worry about is which car to purchase next.
