Cheap Storage

So you have storage problems and you are on a tight budget. What else is new? You and millions of other Americans are looking for cheap storage solutions to get the clutter under control. But this is nothing new. Humans have a knack for designating a storage space in their homes for clutter storage and have been searching for ways to move it somewhere else. For instance, every household in the free world has what is termed as a junk drawer. Usually it is in the kitchen. And the word junk is not used loosely. If refers to the old batteries, the rubber bands, the miscellaneous sized screws, the paperclips, the golf ball, and the old wireless phone that are kept in these junk drawers. Some people might refer to the junk drawer as the graveyard for misfit items. It is a poor storage solution for things that do not have a home or place to go. So our lazy instincts tell us to just plop it in a drawer just to get it out of the way. However, this is not a cheap storage solution. It is cheap storage, but not a solution. And this is not the only place in the house where we tuck things out of the way. There are hundreds of them, like under the bed, the top shelf in a closet, under the bathroom sink, and anywhere in the garage. So let us get started on finding other cheap storage solutions and take back what can be useful space.

Do not make radical cheap storage decisions yet, see what you are dealing with first. Organize the junk so it does not appear like junk. Rubber bands, paperclips, screws, batteries, and golf balls appear like junk when it is all mixed up and it is hard to identify what is what. But when they are separated and categorized into groups, you can identify each with a function and purpose in life. Suddenly a rubber band looks like a rubber band and not some piece of string of some sort.

Once you have grouped and identified your personal storage items, ask yourself why this particular thing is important to me. If an item has no practical purpose or sentimental value it is just taking up storage space. So it is time to get rid of it. Toss it, donate it, or give it away. It has no business taking up valuable storage space in your home. Finding cheap storage might involve finding cheap labor. Get the family involved to help you find more storage solutions.

Now, here are a few ideas on finding cheap storage containers. You can always see if they are on sale at one of those big retail chains. There are so many different kinds of plastic storage containers. Some are cheap storage containers and some are not. It is up to you to find which ones fit best for your storage needs. Another cheap storage solution is to use recycled storage containers. Most likely you already bought these and have them in your recycling bin. Baby food jars will work well for those screws and rubber bands that you pulled out from the junk drawer. Shoe boxes are great for important tax records and receipts. And large plastic ice cream containers and Cool Whip containers are an awesome cheap storage solution for golf balls and batteries
