• Plan how to organise your unit. This will prove to be useful in the long run.
• Leave a walkway through the centre of your unit for easy accessibility of goods.
• Use shelving units to utilize your storeroom more effectively.
• Label all boxes.
• Do not fill the boxes too much as this could make them too heavy.
• Use blankets or pallets to keep items off the floor of the storage space .
• Pack frequently used items toward the front of the unit.
• Wrap and store mirrors and fragile paintings on end. Do not lay them flat. Indicate that they are fragile.
• Put cloth or blankets between furniture to prevent damage due to scratching.
• Leave the door slightly open for appliances like refrigerators and microwaves to prevent mildew.
• Rub a bit of oil on metal components to prevent rusting.

Keeping these things in view while storing your things will help you store your valuable goods more effectively.

It is no wonder that storage space has come as a welcome amenity in the cramped city life of modern days. Along with the conveniences of city life come the smaller living space and apartments that people have to put up with. Storerooms to store personal as well as business items have thus caught on in most major cities. You could live without using this facility, but once you start using it, you will be surprised at the advantages it offers and the ease of its use.

Reasons To Utilize A Storeroom

A cargo space is more of a necessity now than a luxury. You may think that storerooms are used only by people who have enough money to spare. But the opposite is true. Storage space has now become more of a need. As living spaces get smaller, extra space to accommodate personal belongings ceases to exist. Other scenarios like relocation, remodelling, family expansion, etc. – all call for reasons for extra space to store items. In such cases, you can always move your extra goods to storehouses to make more space.

When it comes to finding exceptionally secure, clean and affordable storage spaces , nothing can beat storing facilities. Storerooms have been in use for many years now, especially for business owners who are always on the lookout for extra space to store their files, records, inventory, product samples, raw materials and promotional materials.

There are also packing and shifting companies that use these storing facilities during relocation to temporarily store the belongings of their clients. Storeroom facilities are becoming popular among college students, since it offers them a convenient way to store all their belongings from semester to semester without having to pack up and transport everything back home.

Tips On Proper Storing

Storage spaces in storeroom facilities can be optimized if one is careful in packing and stacking stuff within the given space. Here are some tips to make the most of the space one has

Pack the items well

Instead of simply dumping all the items into the storing unit, pack them properly using plastic covers, paper, cartons, bubble-wrap and tape so that the items remain well-protected during the storing period. It is also important to pack each item in the right way. For instance, books must be packed on their flat sides and not on the edges. However, framed items placed in cargo spaces must be placed on their edges and not laid flat. These include window screens, mirrors and paintings that are best wrapped in bubble wrap before being placed in flat-pack cartons.

Packing heavy items

Before storing large items like water filters, freezers and fridges, it is essential to thoroughly clean and dry them. Avoid storing any small items within the freezer or fridge it is best to leave them empty. However, it will be a good idea to leave a deodorizer, such as baking soda, inside to maintain freshness and avoid odors.

Empty the drawers and cupboards before storing them. To store clothes in storage spaces , it is best to use strong cartons. Toss in some mothballs to prevent damage to clothes. If possible, always disassemble furniture before storing. This will save lots of space and avoid damage to the furniture. Also, remember to vacuum the furniture prior to shifting them to storing this will protect them from bugs.

Packing fragile and metal items

Wrap breakable items like glassware and dishes separately in packing paper. While these items are placed into cartons, make sure to fill the gaps with linen or crumpled paper. Before placing such delicate items into storage spaces , it would be a good idea to label these cartons.

If silver items have to be placed in storing spaces, wrap them in plastic bags or tissue paper to prevent tarnishing. In the case of cast iron or chrome items, treat them with machine oil to protect them from rusting.

Packing machinery and computers

Drain the oil or fuel from machinery before placing them in storing spaces. This will prevent leakage and risk of damage to other goods in the space. This also minimizes fire hazards.

If the original packing and cartons of computers are available, use them for storing computers in storage spaces . Otherwise, pack computers in bubble wrap and fill up any gaps in the cartons. Computers have to be packed before storing – especially if they are going to be in storeroom for more than six months.
