There could be many different reasons why people are looking to need vehicle storage. First you have to figure out if you have called the right facility that will need vehicle storage from. With that said, hopefully you have a facility in your local area that has the room you need for car storage. Now make sure that you think about and ask the property manager about all the options they have for car storage.

I get a call every once in a while in which someone wants to store a vehicle. Many of them don’t realize that there are multiple options. The cheapest is obviously outside parking, due to its lack of protection from the elements. However, just because it’s the cheapest, doesn’t mean don’t go with it. Most people store cars they use on a regular basis. These cars often sit outside anyway.

Now of course storage owners have some restrictions on parking as a whole. Not all facilities will allow you to park inside. So the only choice you have at the time is to park outside or to find a facility that has inside parking. Other restrictions outside of having parking at all, is you are not allowed to work on your car, you have to have the least amount of gas in the car and you have to have the car registered and licensed in your name. Now every facility and owner will have their own set of restrictions. Make sure you ask your local self storage manager what their restrictions are.

Choosing The Right Self Storage Unit

If you are intending to store valuable items like a boat or other vehicles, choose a company that offers good security in the form of security cameras, alarms or guards. If an outdoor unit is provided for these items, there may be an added risk of theft or vandalism. Rusting of the metal components is another area of concern. Outdoor units are not suitable for items like clothing, paintings, documents and so forth that are susceptible to changes in the weather and climate.

Drive-up store rooms, which are very common, are roughly the size of a small garage. They are very convenient as you can drive right up to your self storage unit and then load or unload your belongings. These are generally not climate controlled and are at a higher risk category since the goods stored in them are more susceptible to theft.

An indoor unit is located inside a building and has better security. Climate control is also possible in many cases.

Consider the goods that you have to store and the various options available in the market, and choose the service provider that matches your requirements the most.

This self storage unit is roughly the size of a middle-sized bedroom, and nearly 108 files on shelves or 168 file boxes without shelves can be accommodated.

The 10 feet by 15 feet unit is nearly the size of a garage and is capable of accommodating the furniture of five rooms or 295 file boxes without shelves

The next unit is the 10 feet by 20 feet, which is the size of a car garage. Nearly 379 file size boxes without shelves can be stored here. The furniture in a two-bedroom house minus other items or smaller appliances can alternatively be accommodated in this unit.

The goods of a two to three bedroom house or 504 file-size boxes can be stored in the 10 feet by 25 feet unit.

Choosing the right self storage unit from the mind boggling variety of choices can be a formidable task. You need to know about each one in detail to help you make the right decision. Storing containers come in various sizes to accommodate personal as well as commercial requirements. You need to carefully consider your needs as well as the type of goods that needs to be stored in order to get maximum value for your money. Make a careful inventory of the items that need to be stored. For larger items like furniture, draw up a floor plan with accurate measurements.

A Rough Guide To Stockroom Sizes

The smallest self storage unit size is usually the 5 feet by 5 feet unit. You can store around 30 file-size boxes as well as a few chairs and other items in this unit.

The 5 feet by 10 feet is the next sized unit, which is roughly the size of a large closet. This unit can hold about 84 file boxes without shelves or the furniture of one room.

The 5 feet by 15 feet hoarding container, which is almost the size of a walk-in closet, can hold about 130 file boxes without shelves, or the furniture of nearly three rooms.

Size – Size is an important factor while deciding on safekeeping space. Warehouse comes in various sizes. Getting a size too small could create problems at the time of shifting your goods and getting a size too big may prove to be uneconomical. If you are unsure about the choice you are making, get the expert opinion of the facility manager. Show the facility manager an assessment of the goods you need to store so that he can choose the appropriate size for your storing container.

Security – The level of security you need will depend on the value of the goods that you are storing. Check the security arrangements for the facility as a whole as well as for individual self storage units . Find out if you can add your own security arrangements for your unit. Check who has access to the unit in case of emergencies.

Costs and Insurance – The cost of the unit should be according to your budget. Various factors affect the cost of the unit like the climate controlling facility, size of the unit, security of the unit, etc. Weigh the benefits of each factor against the cost and make a decision. Also find out if insurance coverage is provided, and if so, to what extent.

Environmental control - Environmental issues such as pest control measures in the facility, type of goods allowed in the self storage units – for example, if hazardous or inflammable material is allowed or not, etc. are important while deciding the facility.

Self storage units come in various sizes and types. You can choose the one you need, depending on what you are going to store. You can select from a car, an RV or boat storing house, a refrigerated unit, wine cargo space unit, or other personal belongings safekeeping unit. You can opt for weather-controlled units if the goods to be stored need to be kept at a particular temperature or humidity level. This ensures that the stored goods are protected from mildew and mold. Goods that are susceptible to temperature variations like clothing, art works, electronic goods, documents, etc. should preferably be stored in units where the climate can be regulated. Different levels of security are also offered at different facilities ranging from the basic gated complexes to increased security procedures. Certain facilities even offer laser grid access control.

You need to be very careful in selecting the space to store your household goods or office belongings. You may need a place to store your belongings for various reasons. It could be relocation, moving, inheritance, death, shifting of office premises, etc. Extra cargo space may even be required just because you have too many belongings and do not know where to store them all. You need a safe and secure place where all your stuff can be stored and at the same time accessed whenever you need it. Ask yourself the following questions while choosing self storage units to store your goods.

What should the size of the container be

Do you require a storehouse which can be climate controlled

What level of security is provided for your belongings

Have you checked the agreement and conditions before leasing the storing container

Facilities offering self storage unit are becoming increasingly popular. People own far more personal possessions than space to hoard them. The lack of space could be because of the expanding family, downsizing to a smaller home, or many possessions that have accumulated over the years. People tend to collect many belongings which they do not want to dispose off, for various reasons. The alternate is to use the facilities provided by storing services.

A self storage unit is where you arrange to amass your excess belongings. They come in a variety of sizes to suit your needs. They are used by people to store their personal furnishings as well as by small business owners to store their excess inventory.

You may find many such facility providers in your locality. This is convenient as you may require visiting your facility quite frequently. However, visit a number of storing facilities before you decide on the one you wish to use. Just visiting one in your locality is not enough. Look to see what kind of services they provide.

The facility you select should be safe from the security point of view. Safe facilities are always popular. Owners of such facilities ensure that their businesses have the best security equipment in place. They are as much concerned about the security of your possessions as you are. The reputable storing facilities are well lit, especially the corridors of the warehouse where the units are installed. They also have video surveillance cameras recording all that is going on, twenty four hours a day and seven days a week. They have a one-point access into their facilities through electronic codes, or through biometric equipment based on fingerprint identification.

Check to see whether your self storage unit has a fire alarm or a smoke detector installed. This is imperative in case of fire break out. Find out whether the facility has adequate security personnel to take care of emergency situations, in case the fire alarms or the smoke detectors go off.

Take a physical look inside the unit you have selected. Ensure it is dust free. Dust can spoil your possessions. If humidity is a factor you can always opt for a temperature controlled self storage unit . These units can be heated or cooled as per your requirement. There are items, such as leather furniture, crystal ware, sensitive electronic equipment, which may require storing under controlled conditions. Most facilities, these days, have such units. These units are slightly more expensive as compared to ordinary units, but they are worth the extra cost.

Rental is another consideration. Storing facilities are not very expensive but you should check with a number of them to see what they charge. Most charge rentals on a monthly basis. Some offer discounts if you pay the six-month unit rental or your yearly rental, at one go. Discounts could vary from 5 percent to 10 percent.

Another reason for their popularity is that they offer a hassle free service. Many facilities offer packing and moving services as well. They arrive with their experts, along with a variety of packing material, such as packing boxes and packing tape. They are adept at packing household furnishings, ensuring no damage is caused.

Whether you are shifting just down the street or between states, renting portable storage units can be very beneficial. But, that is the only reason to use these shifting boxes. They are specially designed containers that can also come in handy in various other situations. Following is a brief rundown on some of the innovative uses of these mobile units.

Storing And Transporting Construction Equipment

Whether you are remodeling or renovating a home or office building, or constructing a new one, you may be looking out for a way to store and transport building materials and specialty equipment. By storing those expensive items in the portable units provided by your cargo space units, you get ultimate peace of mind, as you know that the construction equipment and material are safe and secure. When it comes to storing and transporting construction materials, tools, and machinery from one job site to another, the best solution is to rent portable units – it will make the process smooth and easy, and will be accomplished in a highly cost-effective manner.

Trade Show Events

Regardless of the niche you are dealing in, the market is rapidly getting more and more competitive with every passing day. In order to maintain an edge over your competitors, it is very important for you to make use of the latest technologies with new and innovative ideas. For example, one of the best ways to do this is to participate in trade show events. Do not worry, as it is no longer an expensive idea. You have these units at your service now, which you can use to store and transport materials for the trade shows. It is safe, secure, and highly affordable.

Seasonal Decorations

Portable storage units also make an ideal place to store your seasonal decoration items. It is not just about Christmas or Thanksgiving Day - you may need the decoration items for various other occasions as well anytime during the year, such as for birthday parties, wedding anniversaries, a get together with family and friends, baby shower parties, and other such occasions. On these happy occasions, you obviously do not want the hassle of hiring a truck, visiting the storing facility, loading the decoration items on the truck, driving it back to your home, and then unloading the items. If you go for it, there is always a chance of mishandling, which may damage those beautiful decorations. On the other hand, when you rent portable storage units , all you have to do is give a call to the facility manager and they will simply transport your cargo space unit to your place. Since this process eliminates the unnecessary loading and unloading of items, the chances of mishandling are very little – if any at all. Even cost-wise, if you compare renting mobile units with renting your own truck, you will find the former a much better option. It costs very little, but ensures a much higher level of safety and security for the stored items.

Businesses can also take advantage of these storehouse containers for various purposes. For example, you can use them to store excess inventory in a safe and secure environment. Whenever you need the inventory, you can simply give a call to the cargo space owner and the container will be transported back to your office. This way, portable units can make things quite convenient for you. It will help you achieve your bottom line, i.e. net profits.

Self storage units update themselves in various ways nowadays to keep up with the competition. Store-house owners need to refurbish their traditional storing facilities with extra features to attract more customers.

Climate-controlled facilities are becoming more preferable among consumers because of their ability to preserve consumable items for longer durations.

There are different types and sizes of storing facilities. A store-house proprietor has to understand customer needs and nature of the materials to be stored while building storing rooms.

Besides, before paying the rent for a store-place area it is essential for consumers to check out some aspects as well.

How To Make Self Storage Units Commercially Viable

Holders of storing facilities have to offer a wide range of room sizes to customers. There are various size-types which a storing area owner has to know about.

The most common room dimension is 5 feet by 10 feet. Other than this, there are specific room measurements that are constructed keeping in mind the clients requirements.

For example, there are room dimensions like 10 by 10 feet, 10 by 20 feet, 15 by 20 feet and 20 by 20 feet.

Nowadays, acquiring steel or metal storing facilities is considered to be a profitable investment option. These store-places are equipped to provide the customers with necessary safekeeping for their items.

Most of the self storage units constitute of walling made of uneven metal surface. There are rolled-up doors for each facility entrance.

An owner has to provide enhanced security features to ensure that the customer goods are properly secured. Cameras to screen the facilities and proper access control are essential areas to assess.

Each of these facility gates should have alarm systems. Plus, the security personnel should be properly trained to safeguard the customer materials in the units.

An outdoor parking area near the storing place is another essential requirement for consumer convenience. Making ones store-rooms temperature-controlled is an added advantage for an owner.

Some states in US specifically provide wine-storing rooms for clients. This increases their clientele and earnings to a significant degree.

For staff members, it is essential to look after the cleanliness of a client store-room. Also, a storeroom manager should guide the clients regarding the sizes and room types that would be suitable for protecting their goods.

Self Storage Units – Customers Requirements

Customers have to select self storage units after evaluating the nature of products and goods they wish to store.

One common mistake that most customers make is picking a large-size room 20 by 20 feet, when their requirement is of 10 by 10 feet. As a customer, one must realize that for larger storing places, one has to pay extra rentals, as well.

In fact, any high-standard storing area will take an additional charge for every service it offers. Hence, it is essential to do some research and check out feasible rates for storing facilities.

There are store-houses that also offer a moderate and reasonable array of services for discount offers. One must keep a look-out for such occasions.

Temperature or climate-controlled storing units are ideal for specific goods. Also hygiene should be maintained at the customer individual facility.

Location of the storing house is another vital aspect to be looked into. Customers must check whether the storing-house has its own moving supplies and vehicles.

Also, there are various types of billing schemes offered by facility owners. For instance, there are anniversary billing and pro-rated billing procedures. One should pick a billing scheme which one finds the most convenient.
