Below is a checklist of questions that will help you know the difference between trustworthy and untrustworthy companies.

  • They should be registered with the government. American cartage firms need to be registered with the Department of Transportation, DOT. There are also associations such as the American shifting and storing association called AMSA. Proper accreditation is a good sign of an above-board business.
  • They should have a good reputation. Ask the cargo space facilities in your area, ask friends and family.
  • Their rates should match market standards. Getting estimates from two or three other places will help you know if any particular shifting company is over-charging.
  • They should have an insurance policy. Ask what exactly their insurance covers. In some cases people need to move things that are not covered by the more basic insurance plans. Also check what kind of deductible they have. Your clients might end up paying more than they bargained for in the case of a problem.
  • They should have a good customer complaint policy and resolution rate. This should be covered at some point in their standard contract. You might also want to check with the Better Business Bureau BBB to see if there are any complaints lodged against them.
  • What information does moving companies provide According to law a company must provide a written estimate, proof that they are registered with the DOT, and a written contract upon being hired. Obviously, failure to produce any of these things should be a warning sign.

When searching for a firm, look for one that is professional and adheres to the guidelines and regulations. Remember that moving companies are not just a couple people with big trucks they should be serious and organized to provide their customers with the shifting experience they desire. Professionalism is important and required. The company should have excellent time management skills, skilled workers and hi quality warehouse condition backed by state-of-the-art security and transportation facility.

Owners and operators of cargo space facilities work with cartage professionals on a regular basis. This is a mutually beneficial relationship. Many people on relocating need extra cargo space. Some others hire moving companies to shift their belongings from their locker to another location. In other words, cartage firms that specialize in a certain area – residential, corporate, can work together with the cargo space industry to serve the different consumer needs.

If you run a storing facility, it is in your best interest to develop ties with reputable shifters in order to assure that your customers find the right people. Remember that if your clientele is unhappy with their experience, they might take out faults in you as well. So it is important to be able to tell the trustworthy moving companies from the untrustworthy.

Without the right planning and attention to detail the process of shifting can be a pretty awful experience. It is no wonder then that many people turn to moving companies for assistance. Experienced shifters can make your move a smooth and organized one. On the other hand, unqualified, uncertified organizations can turn the whole affair into a nightmare. Broken or lost items, additional expenses than the initial estimate, and discourtesy are just some of the examples of unpleasantness one might have to deal with when the wrong firm has been hired to handle their move.
