Do not store your car if you can. That is the thumb rule for keeping your car in a running condition. Simply driving your car for half an hour every few weeks will be enough to keep it fine tuned. But situations do arise when you find that you have to store your car for some reason or the other. There are many companies that have good facilities to store your car and car storage is a better option to keep your can when not in use that to just leave it in your garage. These days the car sellers are also providing car storing service. Wherever you store your car make sure that the location is well ventilated and dry. Look for only those facilities that provide this or you may end up paying less for the storing part but more for making your car road worthy.

But whoever you leave your car with there are some things that you must take care of to ensure that you drive out in your car when you need it and the car does not drive out on the back of a trailer. These are some simple tips that you will find no problem in following. The first thing that you must do for long term car storage is to take safe measures for the engine, the heart of your car. Long warehousing can damage the oil tank as well as the engine. Make sure to change the engine oil and oil filter before storing. If you find that the coolant change will cover more than two years when you bring out your car once again, change the coolant too.

During the time of car storage you will not get to check the car daily as you do when in normal use. So make sure that the parts are left in working condition and it is best to make any changes during this time. If any service is due, do it before storing as after taking out a car from warehouse and then going in for servicing can cost most because the car will have many non-working parts that will need change. Get brake fluid refill and transmission oil refill if the time of replacement is near. After getting the internal machinery in order the turn is for the external parts. Clean up the vehicle and remove any dirt and scraps, give it a thorough wash, dry it and give a good coating of wax polish before putting it away.

When putting your vehicle for car storage make sure you take out the battery. Remove the battery from the car and thoroughly clean it to remove any acidic components of the case. You should also seal in the air intake pipes and exhaust pipes to prevent any unwanted debris being getting into them and choking them. You can either plug with lint or simply put a plastic cap or cover and wrap it tight with a rubber band. Cover your car with a car cover made preferably of any breathing material as a regular plastic cover can damage the paint of the car. If you find that the garage floor has the chance of absorbing moisture, you can lay out a plastic sheet and then put your car on it. The final stage of car storage is the same that you do for your wardrobe. Put some mothballs inside the boot, the cabin and the engine compartment to keep out the creepy-crawlies.
