Conventionally, storage and moving are two separate business segments. Storing places businesses provide safekeeping space for people who do not have enough free space in their homes. The businesses in packaging and moving industry serve the people who wanted logistics support. One common factor that links both these businesses is the fact they both have one set of common customers, that is, the people who want to relocate.

When people relocate, many people may not be able to make prior arrangements for accommodation. So, a majority of them first keep their belongings in a safe keeping place or unit. Then they go to the new place without much luggage and comfortably search for a new home. Afterwards, they engage a packaging and moving company to fetch the items to the new place. But times are beginning to change. Many cargo companies are offering the service of storing and moving as part of value addition in business. In fact, such value additions are necessary as the economic recession and other financial troubles have cast a shadow over the storing industry, as well.

The main advantage is for customers. They do not have to hire a separate agency for transporting their items. Also, they do not have to pack and unpack the items twice. Packing and unpacking are tedious and time-consuming activities. Previously, one had to pack the items based on the requirements of the place of safekeeping and then unpack the items and pack them again for the requirements of the logistics company. But if one opts for a company that provides both the services, one can save time and money required for packing and unpacking. The companies also benefit by offering the twin services of storing and moving. They get new customers who want the logistics service. So, it is advantageous for widening the customer base.

However, offering both the services is not an easy task. If the personnel are not familiar with the business of moving, the company will run into a lot of trouble. It is one thing providing excellent security facilities and customer service for self storing related business. It is entirely another thing packaging and moving professionally without any damage. If not done properly, the value addition will create the opposite effect of what is intended. Clumsy logistics service can chase the existing customers away.

Effective Ways For Providing Storing And Moving Service

If the owner and crew of a storing organization are not experienced in logistics service, it is better to have a tie-up with a company that is experienced in this sector. There are two options here. One is to form a partnership with another company that provides packaging and moving service as well. The second option is to join hands with an existing logistics company.

Both the options have their own advantages and disadvantages. The main disadvantage is that the company does not need to invest much on the transportation facilities and on hiring people for logistics service. It can concentrate more on the core business that is, providing self storing and safekeeping facility. The disadvantages include profit sharing and concern over security of the items. Another problem is that the other company may not provide the same level of service.

Nevertheless, if properly managed and efficiently carried out, the combination of moving and storing can enhance the reputation of the company.
