Long term storage is particularly necessary for the vehicles in case of leaving the town or having a vehicle for seasonal use like a snowmobile. Keeping the vehicle in working condition and finding it just as working as of the last use is a difficult task and needs a bit of care while putting it off for a few months. It needs a bit of preparation to make the vehicle storing ready so that you do not need to spend every time you bring it back to use.

 

The most important part is to find a suitable storing space for your vehicle. There can be many spaces for storing but remember that you are in for long term storage and this means leaving your vehicle unused and unsupervised for quite a few months. This means that the space should be secure, dry and clean the basics of safe long term storing. The worst place can be one which is humid and dusty. These can cause such damages to your vehicle that you will need to spend a lot once you take it out for use. One of the greatest enemies of the vehicles is moisture. Moisture condenses inside the metallic parts and soon they start rusting the interior parts of the vehicle and without your knowledge the damage slowly eats into the car or the snowmobile. The interiors also include the engine. So the best place to store should be free from dust, moisture, and extremes of heat and cold. It naturally confines the search of storing space to the climate controlled units.

 

Apparently there is a conception that one must store the furniture safe from rodents and pests. The vehicles are no different. Rats can destroy the wiring of the cars and as the modern cars have sophisticated connections to perform the various automatic functions, any destruction of this wiring can cause a huge amount of money to restore. When your vehicle is in long term storage , it provides safe haven to the rodents to start their family. The sponge and foam interiors within a heated atmosphere can be a very comfortable nesting site. So take every measure to ensure that there are no rodents or pests in the storing location. There are various mechanical devices that are available for keeping away rodents. It is wise to use them without relying on the service that is available at the storing sites.

 

You are leaving your vehicle for long term storage and you should prepare your vehicle for it accordingly. The first step is to change any existing oil in the fuel tank. Use synthetics as an alternate material to keep inside the tank during storing. This will help in prevention of building up of moisture. The synthetic oil helps with its coating properties as well as with its stability on longer term. Adding stabilizer to it enhances the stability. The tank should be filled completely to shut off any moisture that might cause rusting.

 

The other component that needs special care is the battery. In long term storage you should remove the battery as the casing may crack or leak acid which may corrode your vehicle parts. Simply replace the battery when you want to reuse the vehicle. The rubber parts may be conditioned for the weather with lithium based grease and the interior leather and vinyl coverings may be similarly conditioned with special conditioners for these materials. Finally, the exterior should be cleaned thoroughly and covered with a good quality car cover.
